What Is a Smart Key?
A smart key (proximity key, intelligent key, or comfort access key) is a wireless device your car detects passively. When you approach, the car unlocks automatically. When you press the start button, the system verifies the key's presence wirelessly — no insertion required. Smart keys contain a transponder chip plus a Low Frequency radio system for proximity detection, both of which must be registered to your vehicle's Body Control Module.
